Burnout recovery

You are not tired. You are unable to recover.

There is a difference, and it is the whole difference. Tiredness responds to rest. What you have does not.

You sleep and it does not repay anything. You take the weekend and arrive at Monday already behind. You take actual leave and get four good days before the pressure comes back to exactly where it was.

What is actually broken

The recovery mechanism is saturated.

Under sustained demand the nervous system goes into a threat response and, if that becomes the standing state rather than an episode, it stops standing down. The brain's threat circuits stay part-activated. Rest keeps arriving and keeps failing to land, because the system it is supposed to restore is busy holding a position.

That is why this does not respond to the interventions people reach for first. You cannot discipline your way out of it, because discipline is effort, and effort is the input that saturated the system. You cannot think your way out either — behaviour follows emotional encoding, not intention.

It is also why it is not depression, and not a character flaw, and not a sign that you are less capable than you were. Your capability is intact. It is behind a door.

The threshold of resilience. Every experience carries an emotional charge. What decides its long-term impact is not the event but how your nervous system processed and stored it. Over time that sets the point at which pressure starts interfering with clarity, stability and performance.

Four things that go first

What sustained activation interferes with

Her own list, in the order clients usually notice them.

01

Focus and decision-making

Decisions that used to take a minute now take a week, or get made badly just to stop having to hold them.

02

Neuro-emotional balance

A shorter fuse, or no fuse at all — a flatness where a reaction used to be.

03

Creativity and adaptability

The part of you that used to find the third option stops offering one.

04

Relational intelligence

You read the room worse, and you have less patience for what you do read.

What Reset does differently

It goes at the load, not at you.

Reset restores regulation first. Not insight, not motivation, not a better framework for your week — regulation, at the physiological level, through directed and targeted work that lets the nervous system reprocess the activation attached to specific experiences.

As regulation returns, physiological responses soften, perception widens and your adaptive capacity becomes reachable again. The circumstances of your life may be identical. What changes is the state you are meeting them from.

And the non-negotiable outcome of a session is testable. By the end of it you relate to the situation you walked in with more resilience than when you arrived — often to the point where it no longer reads as critical at all.

The questions people actually ask

Questions people ask before they book

How long does burnout recovery take?

Honestly, it depends on three separate clocks: how long the activation has been running, whether the conditions that caused it still exist, and how quickly your system responds to regulation. Some people feel a meaningful shift in a first session. Structural change over a long-standing pattern is usually a twelve-session arc.

There is a longer answer to this in the journal, because it is the question people ask most and the one most articles answer badly.

Do I have to stop working?

No, and most of Ola's clients do not. The twelve-week Anti-Burnout Protocol is explicitly built to run alongside a full workload, without adding anything to your calendar beyond the sessions themselves.

Is this instead of seeing a doctor?

No. Reset is coaching, not medical care, and it does not replace it. If you are in psychological or psychiatric distress, that belongs with a clinician. Ola will tell you if she thinks you are too deep in burnout for coaching to be the right instrument, rather than take the booking.

What if I have been to therapy already and it did not fix it?

That is extremely common here, and it is not a comment on the therapy. Insight and regulation are different things. Reset works at the level where the patterns were encoded, which is why it can move something that years of accurate understanding did not.
